No reaction. No conversation afterwards about it. I think this is one thing in a long line of reductions/cutbacks that no one is concerned about it. I wonder when they're going to drop the public WT and just offer the 16 page awake?

What's the JW reaction to new 16 page mags????
by diamondiiz inif you've been to the meeting when the letter was read, what was jw reaction????

by Juan Viejo2 ini've published part one of a three part series about the menlo park kh scandal.

graysome67 - Thanks for posting this and welcome! Look forward to hearing more from you.
Open remarks to Bethel - Why do you insist on making such trivial announcements so dramatically!! Really, you guys are the biggest drama queens in the world. And, do you honestly think you can put out a letter and it remain secret? We've seen this letter in multiple languages about 2 weeks prior to it being officially announced to the congregation. Why keep it confidential? Seems like you could have just put this in the KM.
Even your elders manual was leaked within probably a day of someone receiving it. This must really piss you off!

Will Embracing the Internet lead to Increased Growth for the Watchtower?
by jwfacts inmore important than the reduction in the size of the new magazine is that the watchtower will be actively promoting its website and encouraging people use it to download magazines.
my concern is that this has the potential to lead to an increase in growth for the watchtower.. the door-to-door preaching work has been one of the most inefficient means imaginable to gain converts, and done little more than tie up the time of active jws.
now, by directing people to the internet, witnesses can spread their message at an alarming rate for little cost.. do you feel that this has the potential to lead to a surge in growth of jehovah's witnesses?

It's just a cost saving measure. There's no way that the JWS use of the internet is going to help them over the long term. There are too many ways to invalidate the theology to newcomers that it just won't work. The religion just isn't getting new recruits outside the third world and once that's played out, they will simply fade away over the next 100 years or so.
Either there is a major reformation to suit the needs of the current population or they are doomed to the fringe, or the edge of the fringe because its a fringe religion now. Maybe not to us that have been impacted but to society as a whole, it is.

Those on JWN still serving as elders...What if?
by Kensho inapostates undercover elders (i know there are some professed elders on here) have you ever handled a jc envoling a publisher viewing sites like jwn or others and who question the gb etc.. and if not what if you were assigned a jc involving apostacy?.
i would think this would be almost, if not an impossible situation.. kensho.

I used to think that people looked up to elders until I actually became one. Then I realized that if you actually tried to be there for folks, that you'd get steamrolled and treated like a slave.Everything you say or do is gossiped about, nothing is ever good enough. Crazy cat lady single 50 year old pioneer sister who calls in the middle of the night. Psycho 40 year old virgin guy who corners you at the meeting so you can't talk to the more normal people.
Yes, they have a lot of parts but no one pays any attention to them. I would spend hours trying to put together interesting parts only to realize that I could spent 5 minutes and get the same glazed over look. Maybe I just sucked as a speaker but the apathy with which the average JW lives their lives and approaches their religion is amazing. The religion really does suck the life out of you.
I also learned that you're nothing but a low level manager in a multi-national publishing corporation. The contempt that the COs/DOs and branch has for the average elder is barely concealed. They treat you like an idiot and constantly talk down to you.
Bottom line, the only impact that an elder can have on a publisher is the ability to DF them. But, if you're an unbelieving elder, you're going to avoid being on a JC or if you are on one, you'll push for reproof. Easy enough. The rest of the stuff just doesn't really matter. I think you guys are overstating the impact an elder has on folks.
BUT - the impact that having still serving elders on JWN is probably more positive than negative. Think about all the BOE letters that get leaked, the news that gets broken here. Bethel knows they have loyalty problems with their low level managers and it really pisses them off. They don't know who to trust and I think that undermines the power structure.
I first came here as an elder and when I saw other elders here, it gave me a sense of not being alone and made me stay. Yes, I eventually stepped down but it was my choice. I probably would have anyway because it's the worst "job" I've ever had. I hated it even before I knew TTATT. That just reinforced to me what I already felt.
I say that they should be encouraged to continue doing what they can, leaking what they know. The fact is that most posters here know way more about what's going on in the org than the average JW and in my mind that's a good thing.
Each must follow their own path.

Son to JW school-mate: "Go ahead. Tell the Jewish girl how the Jewish holiday REALLY happened."
by Open mind inmy family (wife and teenage kids) and i awakened to the true nature of the wt society a couple years ago and are fairly well faded now.. .
my son attends high school with a couple of jws, one of whom is an elder's son and an ardent true believer.
let's call him "con".

OM - you're right. I shouldn't have made a sweeping generalization about JWs with my "only know 6 scriptures" comment. So, I'll apologize to all JWs for that.

Con appears to be on the fast track to be an elder!!!
Of course, JWs seem to think they know everything when in fact, they really only know about 6 scriptures.

March 2012 Aux Pioneering
by truthlover inso far what is the response to the aux pioneering this year vs last year?.
in our cong - only 10 so far vs 52 last april.
-
Doubting Bro
Interesting. My congo has about the same number as last year (78 this year, last year it was around 82 I think). Percentage wise, it's similar because there were more publishers last year vs this year due to a few folks moving away.
The pressure was really ramped up with attendants handing out slips to people. They handed me one and I handed it back. My wife took hers and then threw it away.
I expected that the results would fall way off and was surprised that it didn't here. But, I'm encouraged to see everyone else's poor results. You would have thought that it would have been more gradual of a decline.

I had a form handed to me about a week or so ago, I said "no thanks" and handed it back. The person that gave it to me just laughed! I asked him if he was drafting folks and he said, "yeah, we want to beat last years numbers". This guy is still friendly to me and is pretty jaded so it didn't cause any issues.
He handed one to my wife who took it but I saw her throw it away when we got home!!
So far, I think they have around 30 or so out of about 110 publishers. Last year, I think the number was around 80 out of 110. I really think the numbers will be slightly lower this year and will continue that trend as the novality wears off.

A Born ins challenge to develop a "post cult" personality.
by stuckinamovement ina born ins challenge to develop a post cult personality.. mentally leaving the organization can be traumatic for a number of reasons.
one of the biggest challenges for born-ins in finding their pre cult personality is that our entire personalities are based on the religion.
there is no such thing as a pre cult personality for us.
